Throughout the state legislative session, hundreds of bills are introduced that could impact NYSRA members. A report containing proposed legislation that is relevant to NYSRA members is regularly compiled, reviewed and updated by our expert advocacy team.
The report includes:
The review of the bills delineate into three levels; a bill's potential impact on NYSRA members, the degree of legislative support for a bill, and the likelihood of a bill's passage or defeat are among the considerations made when determining the bill's level of importance. As a bill's status changes during session, the bill may move from one level to another.
The NYSRA Legislative Committee, a committee comprised of NYSRA member executives, meets each month to discuss legislative issues important to our members. They along with Jeff Wise, NYSRA President/CEO, work to formulate legislative platforms and messages for our state leaders and national leaders.
Additionally, NYSRA interfaces with Legislators, their key staff, state agency commissioners, central program and fiscal staff, the Division of the Budget and the Governor’s office on all budget and programmatic priorities.
